LINK Internship
LINK Internships are a three week long internship experience for all Juniors at Animas High School. Every LINK internship is individually chosen by each student in hopes of exploring potential career paths after high school.
ROB BELL FINE ART
For my LINK internship I chose to intern with Robert Bell, a fine artist in Denver. He stretches his own canvas, build his own panels, sells his art in dozens of museums and shows and paints from life. Check out his website to see his art.

Final Project
For my final project I made a large wooden panel and painted with acrylic paints and gold foil. My model was a model of Robs and I was painting from a reference photo that he took. I spent about three days from start to finish non-stop painting this panel. At the end he helped me apply the gold foil and finished a couple last details.

❏ Discuss skills and abilities coming in to LINK that were most useful (with specific example)
Skills that I had coming into LINK helped me tremendously while working on assignments given to me by my mentor. I was really efficient in writing the papers and presentations because I was well versed in how to research and develop well written and researched work. I was also pretty good at drawing quickly and accurately when asked to do so.
❏ Discuss the most important skills developed during LINK (with specific example)
When I went to see my mentor he really helped me with sketching the base layer. This was really helpful because when I went to sketch my live drawings, I knew how to create a skeleton before filling in the shades and shadows.
❏ Share how you grew through shortcomings or challenges encountered during LINK
One really big challenge I had was my final project. This was because I had so little time to start and complete it and it was a large piece that I had never used before. I sorta just kept working even If I wasn’t loving how it was turning out. Eventually after tweaking many aspects of it, I finally started to like how it was looking.
❏ Argue for your importance within the organization and make a case for the mentor to
accept high school interns in the future.
I would say my presence with Rob helped him to further think about his techniques and strategies and why they would make sense. I also challenged his word a lot by explaining why this red color would wash out the other colors in the painting.
❏ Describe how the internship experience has helped you plan for next steps for college
and/or career readiness
Going out to a city like Denver all alone definitely helped in my decisions about where I want to go in the future. Being in a city was lonely, but I did love the opportunities there. I also made some strong connections with artists and creators. I definitely need to further think about my after high school career options.
